Norton Basketball

Norton Highschool Basketball was a toss up for me.  Realizing that the Varsity team last year was unstoppable but also lost a lot of Seniors but lost a lot of players hat wouldn't be back this season.  A lot of young new players had to step up and fill the gaps that were left behind to join the team to get to the tournament for the longest streak ever at Norton High. So my expectations for this season wasn't as high as I anticipated last year.

During the basketball season the team was preforming ok but not compared to how they played last year. Also a lot of other teams from different towns improved from last year like Ashland. They ended their season 19-1 which was the best in the Tri-Valley league. And their one defeat was against us.  Many Juniors on the basketball team proved that they were ready or the big test on the Varsity basketball team including Jason Oneil and Brett Murphy who were a great  impact on the season. Jason's incredible ball handling skills and dishing off passes down low was quite beneficial filling in for Levi Kahn who was out injured. Brett Murphy also showed up as an outstanding shooting guard who would drill 3s all day to give Norton a solid offense.

But as the season progressed the Norton Lancers were proving that they are a strong team that will put up a fight to qualify for states.  They had to win there last 3 out of 4 games to qualify for states. These four teams were their tuffest match ups of the season. Including Ashland Bellingham Medway and Holliston. This was unexpected for our small town defeat these huge towns but we succeeded. Norton upsetted all of these hard match ups showing superior teamwork that everyone helped contribute on the floor. Levi Kahn was one of the man leaders to get them their with great defense and his exceptional shoots behind the ark as well as distributing the ball.  Paul Sheliker also should up doing all the dirty work posting up on kids twice his sides. He would also get the majority of Nortons offensive and defensive rebounds as well as the put backs.

I think the reason for Norton turning their season around the positve way was for all of their hard work and determination. Norton basketball was determined not to get pushed around and lose because they all had the will power to keep winning to get them to the playoffs which would keep the long streak going. All of the players were in great shape and just to fast and strong for all of their
competetors . Nortkn kids always would be at the y working on their shot putting on extra work on their game. That is also why Norton improved there shoots  but mainly on the free throw line and would always sink on of two of their shots.

Norton basketball defiantly surprised me on the outcome of  this season defiantly doing better then I anticipated . Finishing  8-10 overall with such young. New team. It was such a remarkable season because of how many seniors we lost last years and thought we would do terrible this  year  to all the new players Mr.lib would have to use. Norton would end up playing Westwood end up unfortunately in a loss for norton but one a moral victory only losing by 6 but everyone was proud that they even made it that far. Where Brett Murphy finished the season right with 6 threes and will be back for norton next year.
